INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO

About me

Hi, I'm Emily!

I have always been drawn to the way spaces work. As a kid, that meant rearranging my bedroom every few months and convincing my dad that this paint colour was definitely the one I'd keep (it never was). Looking back, I was less interested in decorating and more interested in figuring out how a space could actually function better.

My path into Interior Design wasn't a straight line. I started with a degree in Communication Studies, then spent a few years planning fundraising events for a non-profit in Toronto. I liked the pace, but part of the job never seemed to quite fit. I liked the planning and logistics, but events always had the same ending: months of work, gone in a single night. What pulled me towards design was the opposite feeling: building something a family would actually live in and grow with for years. That was enough to send me back to school for my Bachelor of Interior Design.

For the past five years, working with a boutique residential design firm in Toronto, I found where I do my best work: the technical side. The drawings, the coordination, the problem-solving that turns an idea into something a builder can actually pick up and run with. I've built full construction drawing packages for custom homes and full-home renovations, drawn more millwork details than I can count, and spent a lot of time in the space between "here's the concept" and "here's what gets built". Hand me a set of plans and a problem to solve on paper, and I will happily go missing for a few hours.

To me, good design isn't just about a beautiful room; it's about clarity. Anticipating the problem before it happens on-site, communicating the idea well, and drawing something that makes everyone else's job a little easier too.

I am currently finishing my NCIDQ (sitting IDIX & IDPX this October) and BCIN, and looking for the next team to bring that to, one that cares as much about the details as I do.

Outside of work, you'll usually find me renovating our fixer-upper home (in lovely little Millbrook, ON) with my husband, chasing our very small son, and drinking more coffee than is probably reasonable.
